Predictors of mortality after endovascular repair of the thoracic descending aorta--the preliminary New Zealand experience.

چکیده
As the mortality rates associated with open surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysms and type B aortic dissection are within the range of 5-20% and 6-67%, endovascular technology has been developed as a minimally invasive alternative treatment. Such techniques avoid the need for thoracotomy, aortic cross-clamping, and left-sided heart bypass, and are associated with shorter operative times and hospital stays. The incidence of spinal cord ischaemia and paraplegia has been consistently low after endovascular repair of thoracic aneurysms. The latter includes patients in whom long aortic segments and the "danger zone" (T9-L1), that usually gives the origin to the anterior spinal artery, have been covered by the endograft.

Endovascular repair of traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta: report of three cases and review of
Abstract Traumatic descending thoracic aorta pseudo aneurysms have been treated traditionally with open surgery in the past, which have had noticeable rates of mortality and morbidity. A safer method of treatment for this disease is made possible with recent progress in endovascular treatment techniques. In this article, we present three cases of Traumatic descending thoracic aorta pseudo aneu...
متن کاملEndovascular treatment of descending thoracic aneurysms
INTRODUCTION Current strategies for repair of descending thoracic aortic aneurysms consist of open repair with surgical graft replacement or thoracic endovascular aortic repair. We review and update our overall experience in aortic thoracic diseases and specifically analyzed our outcomes with thoracic endovascular aortic repair in patients with descending thoracic aortic aneurysms. METHODS Fr...
متن کاملAORTIC TRANSECTION AND ITS SURGICAL REPAIR: A CASE REPORT FROM IRAN
Aortic transection is a rare but life-threatening complication of blunt chest trauma. Treatment options include open repair, medical management and most recently, endovascular repair. We report a 33 years old male with a traumatic aortic transection following a car accident. Aortic injury and its pseudo-aneurysm were confirmed by Chest CT scan and TEE in the descending thoracic aorta just belo...
متن کاملThoracic endovascular aortic repair: impact of urgency on outcome and quality of life.
OBJECTIVES Endovascular repair of the descending thoracic aorta is a very promising technique in elective and, particularly, emergency situations. This study assessed the impact of urgency of the procedure on outcome and mid-term quality of life in surviving patients. METHODS Post hoc analysis of prospectively collected data of 58 consecutive patients (January 2001-December 2005) with surgica...
متن کاملEmergency endovascular repair of a ruptured descending thoracic aortic aneurysm in an octogenarian: report of a case.
Emergency conventional surgical repair of the descending thoracic aorta remains a therapeutic challenge and is associated with a high risk of mortality. We describe a case of ruptured descending thoracic aortic aneurysm in an 87-year-old man who presented with chest and back pain. The patient underwent successful endovascular repair of the lesion with the use of Gore TAG thoracic endoprosthesis...
